Part of Sidequest, Moonlight on Roseville Beach is a queer game of disco and cosmic horror from R. Rook Studio. There’s a free quickstart on Carrd.
The RPG is set in 1979, in the fictional town of Roseville Beach. Characters spend the summer trying to hold down jobs while defending the community from supernatural horrors. You can see the latest tally and support the crowdfunding project on Kickstarter.
The book will be 100+ and uses origin stories as character classes. The four in the core rules are; the fresh face, the scandalous, the shifter and the witch.
All characters also have jobs, troubles and are subject to strange events. The rule system is inspired by Meguey Baker’s Psi*Run and the Narrative Dynamics of Goblinville Gazette.
Moonlight on Roseville Beach: A Queer Game of Disco & Cosmic Horror is a tabletop roleplaying game that brings together the supernatural investigations and monster hunting of the weird fiction tales of the 20s and 30s from pulp magazines like Weird Tales with the queer romance and adventure of the 50s, 60s, and 70s novelists like Ann Bannon and Joseph Hansen.
The quickstart for Moonlight on Roseville Beach is free to read and several of R. Rook’s other RPGs are pay what you want at DTRPG.
A pledge of $12 gets you a PDF and ePub edition of the game. It’ll also unlock one community copy, which is a lower-tier reserved for those who need it.
The print book will go anywhere in the world, but outside of the US (known as “international”), you have to pay shipping and charges on top of that. The softcover is there, along with the PDF and community copy, for backers at $28.
There are higher tiers for people supporting the community with more copies, groups wanting several print copies for their table (the US only) and retailers.
The expected fulfilment date is August 2022.
