Eyes Beyond the Torchlight is a new fantasy RPG from Workhorse RPG Studio.
The game was released via DriveThruRPG in October and received an update this week. I’ve not yet had a chance to get it out as fantasy RPGs are released several times a week.
But, Eyes Beyond the Torchlight is already different from other fantasy RPGs released in recent weeks. You can buy it in paperback or hardback from Amazon, for example.
There’s also already an Eyes Beyond the Torchlight Third Party License that allows third-party publishers to create and sell products for the game. The license is available as a free download at DriveThruRPG and comes with PNGs of the logos.
Workhorse RPG Studio also publish Advanced Olde Swords Reign, which uses the 5e SRD, but Eyes Beyond the Torchlight uses the Target 12 Game System.
Specifically, the license is for Eyes Beyond the Torchlight and not Target 12 Game System. It governs how publishers should say their game requires Eyes Beyond the Torchlight while also making it clear to customers that it is not official Eyes Beyond the Torchlight. When it comes to the rules system, all it says is;
You must make an effort to ensure that all rules mechanics used in your product are compatible with the Eyes Beyond the Torchlight rules.
If it feels early for Eyes Beyond the Torchlight to have a third-party license, you might be surprised to know it was an early request from buyers in the DriveThruRPG comment section.
