Gumshoe is an RPG system about investigation and keeping the story going. Sons of Singularity have adapted it to 17th-century pirate action in the Caribbean.
There will be ship to ship combat rules and, in keeping with the Gumshoe ethos, these two emphasise roleplaying and reward ingenuity. The book has been funded, and you can join in, watch the numbers or read more at the Kickstarter pitch.
The book will come in at between 165 to 200 pages, with rules for pirate characters in Gumshoe, sandbox play and setting information for Havana and Port Royal.
Between the Devil & the Deep adds rules for PCs using Voodoo magic and creating their own pirate havens.
Sons of Singularity will include two full-length scenarios and add hooks that can be used to expand them or others. There are lore sheets and pre-genned characters.
As you might expect, since this is a pirate RPG, there will also be maps. Stretch goals expand the ports, art and NPC collection.
Backers supporting with $16 (about £12) will get the Between the Devil & the Deep rules in PDF as a thank you.
SoS has also included the print-on-demand option of buying a physical copy from DriveThruRPG at cost in the same tier. It’s not unusual to see publishers creating a separate tier for this.
There’s also a limited, nearly sold out, $100 tier in which a photograph of you will be used as the basis for a character illustration for one of the pre-genned pirates. Yep, it’s your chance to become a pirate.
The expected delivery date, nothing else changing, is March 2022.
