Now and then, I’ll catch a trailer for season 2 for a show I didn’t even know existed, let alone seen, that makes me want to watch it. Made in Abyss has done just that.
In the show, Cave Raiders are people who explore the last unknown place in the world. That’s the giant, dangerous and mysterious cave system known as the Abyss. It’s full of relics and monsters.
The trailer for season 2 tells me they found something down there…

I’m not alone in being late to the party for Made in Abyss. IMDB shows a search in popularity and continued strong ratings. It’s become a cult hit, one of those sleepers you hear about through word of mouth recommendations.
We follow Rico, an orphan from the town of Oosu that sits on the border of the Abyss. Rico had dreamed of being like her mother, a famous Cave Raider, and Rico’s story picks up a pace after discovering a boy who turns out to be a robot.
Seven Seas has the license to do the English language version of the manga, and there’s a healthy collection up on ComiXology.
The poster doesn’t seem so bleak as the trailer, although the tired eyes are evident if you look closely. Instead, we have got a group of explorers and some wide-eyed wonder.
