There’s a compelling reason to rush over to Matt Colville and MCDM’s Patreon program and join right now. Prices are about to go up.
Being a member offers several perks and supports one of the most vibrant and trusted teams of RPG creators currently active. One of those perks is the Arcadia digital magazine.
On December 1st, the $5 supporter tier (Master of Locusts) will be taken away. You won’t be able to join at that level, which means you won’t get access to Arcadia magazine. However, if you get in now, you can stay in at the $5 level.
The next tier up is $10, Topaz, which offers Arcadia and other benefits.
You can buy Arcadia directly from MCDM’s shop and for $7, but that will rise to $12
Arcadia is a tabletop RPG magazine with guest contributors, 5e content and some fantastic illustrations.
MCDM recommend joining Patreon before the 29th of this month to make sure you make the cut-off, as it can take the platform a while to process your joining.
If you are already a $5 member and have to opt-out, even for just one month, then there’s sadly no way back. You’ll have to return at the $10 tier.
Why is the price of Arcadia rising?
MCDM shared a public Patreon post about the price hike. It costs them more to make a better product.
When we picked $5, we didn’t know exactly how long a given ARCADIA issue would be, so we didn’t know exactly how much it would cost to produce. And it costs more now because we’ve hired a full-time artist/art outsource manager (yay, Nick!) to help coordinate getting all the dope art in each issue and we’ve contracted our Supertesters for more dedicated playtesting support. We’ve also added an accessibility pass, so every issue is screen reader-friendly now, which includes a grayscale version that’s more printer-friendly. All this increases the production cost for every issue.
We’re proud of ARCADIA and we think… it really is the best 5E’ zine out there! But $5 was not a reasonable price, and it’s time to course-correct based on better data now that we’re almost a year in.
