The Fate of the Norns game designer Andrew Valkauskas, the Forgotten Realm’s Ed Greenwood, and others are on Kickstarter with a new anthology project.
The Ath-Cliath RPG is the headliner in The Ultimate Viking Anthology, followed by three novels and two graphic novels based on characters from the setting. The campaign needs CA$ 19,900 to fund and is, at the time of writing, halfway there. You can see the current tally or join in on the pitch page.
Joining Andrew Valkauskas, creator of the RPG Fate of the Norns, and Ed Greenwood on the project is author Michelle Franklin, author and RPG supplement writer Stephen Pearl, artist Vicent Pompetti, comic artist Jonathan Burrello, literature professor ANdy Pfrenger and artist Yulia Novikova. That’s quite a pool of talent!
Stretch goals will expand this team even further, adding names like Ed Bourelle, Luke Gygax and Ben McFarland.
Ath-cliath is a stand alone RPG or a supplement for your favourite tabletop RPG such as 5e, PF or pbtA. As a stand alone RPG, it includes a Rule Book for the latest Runic Game System, and another Play Book for character and adventure creation in the Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok universe. The boxed set edition includes 4 rune bags and 2 sets of Elder Futhark pop-out runes along with a foldable poster sized map. This is sufficient to get a table of 4 players up and running. At the heart of the game are the City Book and the Tour Guide Book that detail the city and its occupants. These books bring the city to life for thousands of adventures to be had within its walls. This includes city rumours that can be used for any city in any fantasy RPG.
A pledge of CA$80 (about £48) rewards backers with the Ath-Cliath RPG box. That means 4 books, 1 map, 2 sets of runes, 4 rune bags and stretch goals.
At CA$100, the reward is print-at-cost codes for 3 novels and 2 graphic novels. Note that means you still need to pay those printing costs and shipping.
At CA$110, you’ll get that same set, without any further costs, as PDFs. You also get digital stretch goals.
There’s a limited CA$ 205 tier, an early-bird, where you get the Ath-Cliath RPG, novels and graphic novels printed and with shipping to pay. If you miss out on the early-bird option for that, then the same rewards are available at CA$ 220.
Other tiers are available, including one for retailers who think they can sell 9 copies of the box set. Irrespective of the tier, the delivery date is estimated to be in July 2022.
