It’s hard for map software to lure in backers on Kickstarter. We’ve seen the pitch before. If something looks better than before, it looks too good to be true.
And yet Spain-based Chronos Builder is about to hit their €40,000 target, and their promise is incredible. This system creates maps, 2.5D rooms and even first-person perspectives by either the traditional way or by asking for a new space in the dungeon, hotel, forest, etc.
There’s a generous collection of free to download maps. Perhaps that’s the proof that potential backers needed to see. You can read up more, or join in yourself, from the project page.
Looking for the free VTT maps? You can get them from Chronos’s Google Drive for as long as they maintain that link.
The campaign includes Chronos Builder Lifetime licenses, but that doesn’t mean you get a lifetime of unlimited and free assets for the software.
The pitch is straightforward and wise; you often care about the bigger picture but don’t have time for the detail; chimney smoke, stains on the carpet or a marble bust in the corner. Chronos is the god of time, and that’s what you’ll get back from the project. Time.
However, if you want to build things with fine control, you can do that too.
A pledge of €35 (about £30) will get you that lifetime license and all stretch goals.
If you can step up to €45, you get early access and access to a special Discord channel.
Many higher tiers exist, but they don’t give you extra content – although some give you multiple licenses for friends and fellows. Instead, you can have your likeness added to the assets in the system. That marble bust in the corner could be your face. The picture on the wall might be of you.
The estimated delivery of this complex software project is October 2022.
