Fainting Goat Games are back with Pew Pew! A Complicated Profession. It’s a sequel to a sequel, a further modification and a new edition of the rules-light space hunter RPG that’s growing and evolving through Kickstarters and a growing fan base.
There’s a month on the crowdfunding clock, and the campaign has already been funded. As the project is done, the target amount is low, and the money raised here is to recoup costs.
The rule system is based on Grant Howitt’s Havoc Brigade and the setting is somewhat hand-wavy epic sci-fi. The art is certainly suggestive of wars in space.
The important thing and the focus of Pew Pew! is having fun. You will be a bounty hunter and have a bounty to hunt. The why, how, where, who and what is up to your game.
As you can imagine, that set-up makes Pew Pew! a one-shot specialist. It’s not about pathos over a campaign arc, and it’s about a light-hearted space adventure with ray gunfights.
One player acts as the gamemaster, controlling the setting and all the non-player characters within. The other players take on the role of the bounty hunter squad, a rough-and-tumble bunch on a dangerous mission.
The characters are all pre-generated, so the GM should hand them out at the start of the session and the players can pick which ones they like. Some sample character sheets are below.
The pledge tiers are straightforward; the lowest cost is a financial hardship PDF. This is for you if you’re really struggling.
The next tier is for returning customers, and you’ve already got on the earlier Pew Pew! games. You get a PDF and an at-cost print-on-demand coupon for $6. That leaves you to pay for printing and shipping if you want it.
Everyone else pays $7 for the same. There’s no profit taking by Fainting Goat Games just to give you the POD coupon.
While the project is done, there must still be bits to finish off and the potential for this Kickstarter to change things with final enhancements. The estimated delivery for Pew Pew! – A Complicated Profession is March or April 2022.
