Hideo Furukawa’s Heike Monogatari novel is getting a TV anime, and its trailer is out. The show itself isn’t far behind and is due January 12th in Japan.
We don’t have to wait that long; Funimation is already streaming the dubbed version.
In truth, The Heike Story has been available from streaming platforms in Japan. The TV slot is a promotion, of sorts.
The story chronicles the rise and fall of the Taira clan in the time of the Genpei War. We follow Biwa, a blind minstrel who in her travels encounters Taira no Shigemori, who is the heir to the clan and who can see ghosts. Biwa decries that Shigemori is an omen of the clan’s doom.
Funimation describes the series;
A psychic orphan is taken in by the powerful Taira Clan. Unfortunately, what she predicts is a future filled with violence and civil war.
Aoi Yūki (Tsuyu Asui in My Hero Academia) plays protagonist Biwa, while Takahiro Sakurai (Cloud Strife in many Final Fantasies) plays Taira no Shigemori.
