The first Kaiju Decode trailer left me saying, “This is different“, and while I suppose the second trailer is a little more familiar, it’s still promising.
We just know so little about the anime. It’s mysterious, and it’s almost as if we need to decode it.
Toei Animation is the company behind the original CG show, and Ultraman’s Tsuburaya Productions are co-producing.
The two characters introduced in this trailer are Mildred and Ray. We even know the battling Kaiju’s name; it’s UKU.
Kaiju Decode was first announced late in 2019, and its release date has slipped a little, but most did, thanks to lockdowns. What we were told was;
Under the theme of ‘A Tale of Kaiju and A Girl,’ this project aim to produce a high quality animation that will be accepted by people of all ages overseas while utilizing the strengths of Japanese animation and new technology.”
We also know it won Best Animated Sci-fi Shortt at the Atlanta Sci-Fi Film Festival. Their synopsis is our best insight so far.
The catastrophe “Skyfall” was brought by the collapsed orbital space colony crashed into the Earth. Inside the crater at the crash site now inhabit Kaiju born by gene mutation. Ray, an avatar, comes to the area to collect the scattered “seeds”, not knowing what really is going on there, He soon meets Mil, a mysterious girl. Is she a human, or a Kaiju?
