This blogger faces disability challenges and has tried but failed to commission art showing adventurers of all body types and states of mind. I make this introduction for two reasons.
Firstly, to highlight that it’s not easy breaking free from muscle-bound tropes. Secondly, that inclusion in tabletop RPGs is as much an old grognard (me) issue as it is one that the new generation (the people who kept D&D alive) care about.
Dale Critchley and Wyrmworks Publishing are doing better, and on the 4th of January, the Kickstarter for Limitless Heroics: Including Characters with Disabilities, Mental Illness, and Neurodivergence in Fifth Edition will launch.
A Free Generator Edition of this was made available in September. It contains over 70 random tables of symptoms, severity and frequency.
You’ll remember the backlash the combat wheelchair got. Some people just can’t parse the idea. You’ll have heard, “it’s not realistic in my game of mimic monsters and giants,” or that dungeons aren’t designed for wheelchairs in mind and all sorts.
Wyrmworks Publishing aims to answer some of those objections while also getting crunchy. If you’re into realism for your fantasy, mechanics for 450 symptoms might be tempting. Or, if you want a game that exclusively uses locations designed to be explored by human shapes, then the 90+ new assistive magic items might be a lure.
A “blindness preview” is out, which shows the approach Wyrmworks is taking, and you can read that below or download it.

If you’re using a screen reader, one or both of those two routes into the blindness supplement should work. I hope. I’ve tested and consulted to the best of my ability.
Wyrmworks have done the same. The Limitless Heroics book will use dyslexia and screen reader-friendly formats, and there will also be an indexed audio version.
The creation team hired for the project are all disabled, neurodiverse or mentally ill, and the publisher has consulted with dozens more.
