The Design Mechanism publishes the mithral best-seller Mythras and has announced that their next game will be Destined.
Destined takes the Mythras system into the superhero genre.
The fantasy RPG of Mythras was once RuneQuest 6th edition, but back in 2016, The Design Mechanism split from Moon Design, Chaosium’s parent, went their own way and rebranded the engine.
All that the Mythras product page says on the subject of the game’s origin is;
Mythras is the new name for an older game, but while the name might have changed, the system remains the same,
With Destined we’ll have one of the legacy RuneQuest family members do superheroes. The Design Mechanism says;
A complete RPG in its own right, Destined takes the acclaimed Mythras rules into superpowered territory. Handling a range of power levels and different campaign approaches, Destined is a comprehensive, innovative approach to superhero roleplaying, with a wide range of superpowers, origin options, backgrounds, equipment management, and notes on campaign play. Copious advice sections and examples show you how to set up your super team, manage super villains, and how to emulate different kinds of heroic media, from Silver and Golden Age comics, through to the current film and TV blockbusters.
The preview is free to download and weighs in at 38 pages. According to the publisher, that’s enough to get under the hood of the engine, with a snapshot of character creation, powers, equipment, combat, and even some GM tips.
The complete RPG is due out early next year. There’s absolutely no connection between it and the current run of RuneQuest.
