Space Battleship Yamato 2205 is the second of two films in the remade series, set, not surprisingly, 5 years after Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199.
That puts the plot a few years after the war with the White Comet Empire, and now Kodai (voiced by Daisuke Ono) commands the Yamato.
The actual release tactics of the feature-length are, I find, interesting.
Space Battleship Yamato 2205 is heading to Japanese cinema, and if you’re there, in the actual cinema, you can buy one of the special edition blu-rays of the anime.
If not, wait until later, and get the not-so-special blu-ray.
I think that’s a clever way to reward fans who made the cinema, although I imagine there’s also a risk of isolating fans who would if they could. C19 makes that especially tough.
There’s also the advanced sales of MoviTicke Cards, which have unique art and come with B4-size posters. Not only are fans encouraged to get into the cinema for that big screen experience, but they’re given additional rewards for planning to do so in advance.
