The Game Manufacturers Association is running a worldwide showcase in which tabletop gamers can highlight friendly local gaming stores.
The Power Retail Awards showcase winners will be announced during GAMA Expo, and while GAMA tends to have a North American focus, the showcase is worldwide.
However, nominees must be active GAMA Retail members. I wonder how many of the retailers I’ve seen sharing the tweet, especially those in the UK, actually are.
There are four categories in the Power Retail Awards.
- Retailer of the Year
- Innovation In Games (Retail) (which replaces the old “Organised Play” category) – Who has done something clever
- Outstanding Contribution to Games Industry (Retail) – open to individuals, stores, or even groups
- Outstanding Store Design
To nominate a store, use this Google form, name the store, supply its location, why it’s a winner and pick a category for it. Your own data is optional, but you need to be logged into Google to use the form, which is likely to cut down on the same people submitting dozens of votes.
Only retailers who have been in business for two years are eligible, and, nicely, GAMA says they’ll disqualify any store that’s found not to be following ethically business practices. Previous category winners cannot win in that category again.
The price is a year free’s membership to GAMA (a lukewarm prize given nominees must already be members), inclusion in the GAMA database and inclusion in the Spring issue of Around the Table.
