Geeky Jen is a crafter from the States who has spent about six months and dozens of prototypes on a project to make the right-sized and appropriately geeky bag to life.
The result is a d20 styled and small rucksack, with pockets for dice, phones, and, you know, important stuff. The campaign has just launched and with a $12,000 goal. You can check out the details or pledge from the project page.
Bags are important. This geek seems to have a slight obsession with them, but, in my defence, mine is practical. I have everything from travel cups (coffee!), power packs and my fold-up walking stick in mind. Hardly a luxury fashion accessory. I’m currently with this Atari shoulder bag.
Jen’s had a similar journey of discovery, noting;
Being a tabletop nerd myself, and also a pin maker/collector (among other small baubles I’d like to display!) I noticed that there was a lack of appropriately nerdy ita bags out there in order for me to do so — and the ones that I did find were MASSIVE! I wanted something smaller, more purse size. Something that wasn’t going to weigh a ton and was easy to carry every day. And also, something still on the theme of tabletop RPGs, which led me to design a rucksack style of bag, that would be appropriate for adventuring.
The final bag is padded and with adjustable shoulder straps. Wisely, Jen has included lots of exterior pockets, and the phone shown here is a regular S8. There’s a removable insert for pins (did I mention I also have a pin collection? Is this is a thing with bag fans?), magnetic snaps (which are no doubt better than my buckles), and this petite bag is still big enough to fit a full-sized Switch with grip.
It’s a pledge of $70 to get the bag, which is lower than the expected retail price, but you’ll still have to add shipping.
You can also buy two at once if you’re buying for friends or family members. I’m not sure what Jen makes of shops buying at this tier to re-sell the bags, which I imagine could be done and at a handsome profit, but I’d contact Jen first.
The estimated fulfilment on the d20 Rucksack of Holding is December 2022.
