We don’t know much about Yen Press’ upcoming Goblin Slayer roleplaying game except that it was announced for February, Amazon now suggests April, you can pre-order any way, and it’s based on the anime.
You should progress with caution, as that list doesn’t include anything on how well Yen Press tackle the sexual violence of the novels and show.
Goblin Slayer begins with shocking scenes, surprisingly for such a widely distributed and commercially successful series. The villains were the goblins and the victims, a party of would-be new adventurers who underestimated them.
Yen Press say they’ll be faithfully reproducing the monsters. The blurb on Amazon reads;
The Adventurers Guild has a long list of quests for you and your party to take on: rescuing young maidens from ritual sacrifice, quashing a heretical ceremony in some ancient ruins, and locating lost treasures within a crypt teeming with skeletons and specters! In this tabletop RPG set in the world of the Goblin Slayer series, you’ll find faithful reproductions of the various races and classes taken straight from the novels. Prepare to set out on all sorts of adventures of your own, from exterminating giant rats in the sewers to uncovering legendary hidden treasures-and of course, goblin slaying!
Modern RPGs range from comfortably safe all the way through to edgelord impact, and many irrespective of where they land on that scale, talk about safety and suggest safety mechanics. This might include ways for players to indicate when they’re no longer enjoying the game so that the GM can skip, fade or black or otherwise rescue the night without ruining friendships.
Yen Press has told Amazon that the 232-page RPG is suitable for ages 16 and up. If that’s ballpark accurate, then the RPG may be less dramatic than the anime, but it may just be that the written material in the book doesn’t explicitly mention or illustrate shock scenes.
