Gear Games has an RPG that deserves a higher profile with Vulcania. The game is good, high-octane and steampunk-anime styled adventured set on islands with different themes.
These islands, until now, have been ringed by the storm. The short Kickstarter, running for half the usual time, for Beyond the Storm breaks the geographic limit and has funded today. You can join in from the pitch page.
I used “high-octane and steampunk-anime styled adventured” to describe Vulcania; they use “magmapunk”.
The RPG has you playing as a soldier, scientist, or scoundrel but also as an adventurer. You might be an agency, a loyalist, a rebel, or just out to find a place in the dramatic world.

A successful campaign funds two new books; a rules expansion and world expansion, with the second book being a saga-long adventure to take new characters to legends.
In Vulcania, everything revolves around the d12. Your Character interacts with the world of Vulcania by making Tests when the result of their action is uncertain. You must roll a twelve-sided die and add the Score of the Skill that best suits the situation. Tests can generate spectacular maneuvers and cinematic actions and the Gears of Fate will help you to hold off the bad luck and unleash the power of your hero!
The catch? Beyond the Storm was successfully funded before, but was then cancelled. Why?
Although the campaign was founded, the projections lead us to think that we would not be able to release the content we had planned and maintain the quality level that your support deserves. We therefore decided to press the pause button on the Beyond the Storm campaign.
I think this is the best reason to cancel a Kickstarter. Gear Games could have had our money but worried they could deliver, so they took no chances and refused the coin. Thank you.
Without referencing the early birds, here are some of the tier highlights.
A pledge of €29, which is about £25, gets you the Beyond the Storm PDF and The Xhuul Saga campaign in PDF.
Stepping up to €69 is what it takes to add hardback editions of both books to the bundle.
Then, at €84, the deal changes to the Vulcania Corebook hardcover and PDF, 4 dice, a velvet bag, the Narrator Screen, map and token packs in print and PDF.
Want all three in hardback, then back at €99. The top tier is €174.
