The official RuneScape TTRPG will head straight to retail. The roleplaying game will use Dungeons and Dragon’s 5e and be available this year.
Inspired by Gielinor, the fantasy setting of RuneScape, the RPG will be published by Steamforged Games, who have also announced a Dark Souls RPG.
The tabletop game is described as a “fresh-but-faithful” adaptation of classic quests and characters and designed to appeal to both Old School RuneScape players and “new” RuneScape players.
The RPG won’t be getting a Kickstarter, but a RuneScape board game that’s also been announced today will be.
Phil Mansell, the CEO of Jagex, told the press;
After more than 21 years of being exclusively available digitally, it’s extremely exciting to be collaborating with Steamforged to create and deliver new RuneScape role-playing adventures to tabletop gamers. By launching the board game via a crowdfunding platform, Steamforged is mirroring our approach of involving the RuneScape communities in taking the game to tabletop. Given Steamforged’s experience and expertise in transforming video game experiences to tabletop, I’m sure that both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape players will be excited to get their hands on the planned miniatures to create their own adventures with other’ Scapers and board gamers”
The RuneScape TTRPG will be a hardback, fully illustrated and contain chargen and quest creation.
