More than 400 5e monsters are getting ready in the third and final Tome of Beasts from Kobold Press.
The Kickstarter is the hottest of the year to date as tracked by Geek Native which is to say it casts for the most money, allowing for exchange rates. The target was set at $50,000, and the target was shattered. With 30 days to go, loyal and new backers blasted through $130,000 in no time at all. You can join the stampede from the pitch page.
In addition to 400 monsters, which is an incredible amount, there are 16 minis, 4 VTTs editions, dice, and add-ons. However, there are geographic restrictions on the shipping of the minis.
The Tome of Beasts III Lairs is also PDF and hardback options in the campaign.
A PDF sample of the hardcover is already available from Kobold Press (PDF link).
The VTTs supported are Roll20, Foundry, Fantasy Grounds and Shard Tabletop. They’re mentioned in that order, perhaps an insight into how important they are to Kobold in relative terms.
Whether it’s great community involvement or a little cheeky, Kobold is also taking pledges from people who want to submit their own monster for possible inclusion. Only the 5 monsters will get published, and, at the time of writing, 8 have already been submitted.
There’s a limited edition too.
The monsters from the Tome of Beasts 3 cover the gamut from trash mobs to major villains, and each has been carefully designed, tested, edited and illustrated to make an immediate, terrifying impact on your next 5E tabletop game!
Backers who support the project with a pledge of at least $29 will get the Tome of Beasts 3 in PDF and submit a monster, access the playtest, and other previews with updates.
At $45, the Tome of Beasts 3 Lairs PDF is added.
The VTT licenses for the core Tome of Beasts 3 book are added at $49. Pick the right one.
The hardcover for the main book is $59, and the limited edition (which is is about 50% sold out) unlocks at $79. There are also handbound leather books if you’ve $599 to splash on some D&D monsters! And people have.
Except for the handbound leather books, the project’s expected delivery is November 2022.
