The word “doggos” seems to divide people, some of whom really dislike it, but the choice hasn’t stopped Wet Ink Games’ Heckin’ Good Doggos!
The tabletop RPG of gods doin’ dog stuff has cleared the Kickstarter goal of $10,000 in just a few days and has several hundred backers. You can check out the pitch and a summary below or read the whole thing and pledge from the project page.
Heckin’ Good Doggos describes itself as both all ages and family-friendly, and it’s only really the all ages part that matters, right? Wet Ink Games’ definition of “family” is redundant and slightly at odds with the otherwise diverse group of talented designers, writers and illustrators on board for the project.
The RPG uses the +One system, which is the same RPG in other Wet Ink Games like Never Going Home and Tenebria. That’s a system with d6 rolls compared to a skill proficiency, with situational modifiers that may influence the number or count of the dice.
Games of Heckin’ Good Doggos also feature The Best Friend, the person who’ll look after the dog but also try and stop it from escaping. The Best Friend is part of the setting.
The conflict in the RPG might be someone as scary as the ice-cream vendor or something as simple as fetch quests for squirrels.
Heckin’ Good Doggos is a game of make believe where players can experience the world from an animal’s point of view. Some things will seem familiar, like protecting their backyard from potential threats and protecting their owners, while others are purely fantastic and whimsical situations they find themselves in like helping a ghost resolve its business so it can leave this world. It is simultaneously serious and silly, with an emphasis on crafting scenarios that make players have a blast while also having to solve the many challenges they will experience in ways that only doggos can.
Backers who pledge $10 in support will be rewarded with a PDF copy of the game and all digital stretch goals.
Those backers who contribute $20 or more will get a physical copy of the RPG, too but will have to be the shipping costs, and those are calculated later.
There are higher tiers. At $40, a doggo deck of playing cards is added, and retailers have an $80 option.
The estimated delivery is in May 2022.
