Funimation is currently showing Star Blazers and there’s a new movie coming.
The movie’s opening panel even has Star Blazers visible as an English phrase, but it’s not Star Blazers: A New Voyage Kosho -STASHA-, not technically.
The feature-length is Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Voyage Kosho -STASHA-. It’s both a remark of the 1979’s The New Voyage and a sequel to Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202.
Straightforward, huh? Well, to cut through all that, the team has simply released the first 15 minutes of it!
Those 15 minutes aren’t subtitled, and so I struggle to follow the talkie-scenes, but I can enjoy the space battles such as they are.
After a mythology style intro, Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato leaps straight into the action with a force that’s hugely outnumbered but apparently able to outperform the sluggish rival armada.
Funimation describe the whole series;
Three years after the Yamato’s voyage to restore Earth, a lasting peace with their old enemy bears fruit. Due to Earth’s newly acquired technological might, mankind begins a military expansion. However, a new threat emerges that will again put humanity to the test. In response to a mysterious plea, the Yamato and its crew undertake one more mission for the good of their species.
