Varghand Publishing’s Mace & Magic is the first series of adventures in the Sound Realms range.
Sound Realms uses a modified version of the Basic Roleplaying System from Chaosium but, unlike other BRP games, requires a smartphone or tablet to play.
Why? Sound Realms is a solo-RPG and comes to life as an audio adventure. Headphones are recommended.
Your DM is a professional voice actor. How’s that for the Mercer Effect?
United by a passion for old school RPGs, we set out in 2020 to craft a new way of enjoying solo adventures. We have since developed a smartphone application for iOS and Android which enables you to play through captivating solo adventures. What makes Sound Realms stand out from other RPG apps on the market is the fact (as implied by the name Sound Realms) that all our games are audio-based. A professional voice-over actor acts as your Dungeon Master and takes you through dangerous dungeons and mysterious temples, backed by a cinematic musical score and top of the line sound effects.
The companion adventure for Mace & Magic is a Pay What You Want download with DTRPG. The suggested price is $0.00.
If you like what you see, you’ll also need a smartphone app and you can get that for Android or iOS.
The companion PDF is over 20 pages long and introduces the dark fantasy of the Forsaken Lands of Mihr; there’s even a map.
The world is a familiar medieval one and broadly fantasy, but it has been struck by the “Magiklysm” and event which has brought chaos to the realm.
It’s written by Oscar Carlquist while the programming is by Gustav Sundin, the voice-overs are by Oscar too and with music composed by Richard Lagergren.
