I’ll put my hand up to this; I sometimes use the keyword “geek” to refine my shopping searches. I swear I’ve searched for “geeky watering can” and “geeky breadbox”.
Why? Both are noticeable items that influence the overall vibe of my corner flat, and I want to live the geek life.
But clothes? I’ve too many t-shirts, I’ve found exciting jeans, do I need geeky clothing help? Not so much.
I don’t bother with activewear, though. I’m not active; I have got a walking stick. Secondly, meditation, jogging and yoga seem all alien to me.
Step forward, Oli Sykes, the frontman of the band Bring Me the Horizon. Geek Native’s featured Oli’s fashion before with vampyres and gore. Now he’s back, saying;
… when I got out of rehab I needed to find something to channel my energy and emotion into, so that I didn’t fall back into addiction. I reluctantly started going to the gym and working out. At the time I felt like a lot of kids I relate to hated gym at school and I didn’t think I would get as obsessed with it as I did”.
For me it helps my mental health so much, shakes off negative thoughts, sets me up for the day and makes me feel secure about myself. I felt like trying to illustrate what my chaotic ADD mind feels like through this collection, as it felt like a perfect way to remind myself and hopefully others, why staying active is such an important part of life. I also wanted to make some active wear that wasn’t so fucking boring, plain and uninspiring“.
That idea of tying mental and physical well-being together runs through Demons. That’s an idea I get. I go for many long walks. My walking stick is kept chiefly as safety in my bag these days (always with me, just in case). The more I walk, the more I can walk.
And so “Running from my Demons”, whose name makes perfect sense, contains comfortable and practical activewear. Find in it sets like a 3-piece heavy cotton t-shirt, hoodie and joggers. Also, a yoga mat, duffle bag and flask.
