GG Games, George Gorgievski’s publishing vehicle, has released a free edition of Wild Frontiers.
The game uses a 1D10 system and is inspired by the wild west. It’s not a historical Western as the 120-page download also contains rules for spirit journeys and creatures.
The standard edition is also available for about $11.
The western setting is based in the latter half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is a time of expansion, wealth, heroism and violence; when a new world was being forged through war and industry in what was otherwise a place of utter desolation.
It embodies legends of the post-war lives of lethal gunfighters; gold-rich, but vast and empty, landscapes; pilgrimages and resettling; hostile inhabitants resistant to invasion of their homelands; and frontier towns or burgeoning cities filled with opportunity and death.
But somewhere between the hope and promise the darkness loomed as lethal criminals, tyrannical tycoons, cutthroat gangs and desperate wayfarers all try to take their share off the backs of the decent and hardworking.
The 1D10 system uses levels but not classes and, as the name implies, uses one 10-sided dice with modifiers to handle most situations. It’s designed as a generic RPG and is used in GG Games’ other titles like Distant Lands.
The game’s approach focuses on the narrative elements of roleplaying, keeping combat streamlined and includes support for social and exploration. Wild Frontiers has rules for gambling and reputation.
