Osprey Games, part of the giant Bloomsbury Publishing, has announced a new RPG from Mark Galeotti.
Gran Meccanismo: Clockwork Roleplaying in De Vinici’s Florence is due out August 2022. Galeotti is a clever man, having had rules as senior researcher for institutes such as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, a fellow at the Royal United Services and an Honorary Professor at the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies.
He’s written for Osprey before too, with titles like Russian Security and Paramilitary Forces since 1991: 197 (Elite). He’s also got RPG experience as he wrote the standalone Mythic Russia, an extension of HeroQuest (the Chaosium one) and authored Cyberpunk 2020’s expansion Eurosource.
In Gran Meccanismo, players will explore the 1510 world of the Republic of Florence. The RPG setting has Niccolò Machiavelli understand the true genius of Leonardo da Vinci and use it to develop primitive water-clocked powered computers, spring-powered tanks and betrayal-powered politics.
Gran Meccanismo is a roleplaying game of swashbuckling swordplay where Florence’s winding alleys swarm with sinister Venetian spies and Milanese mercenaries, as an army of robot knights marches past on their way to the Vatican. Players are patricians, mercenaries, spies, and inventors amidst a Renaissance Italy where they may find themselves crossing wits with Machiavelli, avoiding the charms of Lucretia Borgia, and hearing Christopher Columbus tell you about the new world he has discovered…
