Andrews McMeel Publishing will publish a Starter Set for their dark and dangerous fantasy RPG Zweihander. Accompanying the news is a free to download 68-page Zweihander: Session Zero supplement.
The Kickstarter campaign for Zweihander Fantasy Horror RPG Starter Set hit its funding goal within hours. However, it’s a short campaign, running for only two weeks, and so the countdown is on to find out more or pledge.
Zweihander is a medieval fantasy setting, but compared to many others, is more prone to dark humour and does more with black powder weapons. The adventures lean into the horror of occult and social intrigue.
The Starter Set is intended to appeal to new players and established ones as well, as it takes five years of feedback on board to condense the core rules into a tighter experience.
Inside the box set there’s
- A Player’s Guide
- Gamemaster’s Secrets book
- Secrets of Swanzi adventure
- Large map of Swanzi
- High-quality gaming dice
- Four-panel Gamemaster’s screen
- Folding professional folios
- Clue & Spell cards
Your character’s journey will be one filled with mystery, horror, and adventure. In this game, you’ll confront monsters both human and otherworldly. As they struggle in this gray morass, will your character retain their humanity, or will it erode their mind, turning them into one of the very creatures they fight against?
Backers who support Daniel D. Fox and the team’s project with $22 (about £17) get the digital edition. As that means PDF files only, there’s no dice.
The standard edition is added, dice and all physical stretch goals too, at the $33 mark.
There are higher tiers. A $77 “Black Box” tier (which we can see inside) adds Campaign Coins and changes the box set to the Kickstarter-exclusive version.
Superfans can even go to $666 and get a Dog Might made luxury wooden and personalised GM screen and both versions of the box set.
Stretch goals made add Tarot-sized cards, different dice and even new diseases.
Whichever tier backers unlock, if any, the expected fulfilment is expected later this year and in November.
