Hopeless, Maine is a comic book turned transmedia series by Nimue and Tom Brown. It’s a dark fantasy, a horror and has some impressive fan quotes. The Kickstarter for a repackaged edition has about a month to run and is nearly at target.
Tucked away at the end, right at the top tier, is a print-on-demand coupon deal for the RPG. Hopefully, though, we’ll be able to buy the Tombpunk powered system separately later. If you’re worried that won’t be the case or fancy the books, then you can take part at Kickstarter.
The newly repackaged epic will be 100 pages long, full colour and 6.625″ by 10.25″ in hardcover.
Depending on how the Kickstarter goes, there could be a novella to all backers, pin badges, limited prints, a novel, tarot, and, of course, the Hopeless, Main RPG.
The RPG is singled out, though, it’ll have a separate delivery from the rest of the campaign, and I suspect that’s due to DriveThruRPG’s involvement. It’s a different print route.
On the strange haunted island of Hopeless, Maine, young Salamandra explores the limits of her powers and the strength of her convictions. Both she and her newly discovered friend, Owen Davies, face life-changing events at the Pallid Rock Orphanage and begin to take control of their own lives. Just as magic has limits, so does the ability of adults to shield children from harm and consequences in this often dire place.
Add-ons are planned via the Pledge Manager, which will likely be another route to the RPG. Backers at the $1 tier get that Pledge Manager access.
Backers at $10 get Hopeless, Maine 2 as a digital graphic novel, and those at $15 get Hopeless, Maine 1 and 2.
At $20, it’s a hardcover of #2, and at $25, that’s a hardcover and digital edition.
Reaching $35 as a backer unlocks both #1 and #2 in hardcover.
From there, it’s $40 for #2 and the tarot, $50 for various options but not yet the RPG.
The RPG is finally listed at $100, and that’s just the at-cost POD code. So, let’s hope those add-ons include the RPG, huh?
