Xplored announced a multi-game deal with the Paradox for the World of Darkness. The news didn’t say “the game will be a tabletop roleplaying game” and Xplored makes Teburu, which hopes to be a board game tech platform, but the first game is Vampire: The Masquerade – Milan Uprising.
Davide Garofalo, Xplored Founder & CEO, then talked about roleplaying, saying;
We are honored that Paradox has trusted us with one of their most beloved franchises. They embraced our vision for the future of boardgaming, and loved our passion for the WoD, that we’ve been roleplaying for over 25 years, with the same friends and colleagues who now are working together on our first VtM game for Teburu.”
It’s likely that Vampire: The Masquerade – Milan Uprising will be a Teburu board game. Teburu is a system that merges physical tabletop with digital. You play on a board while the system in the cloud takes care of the game rules, the story and NPCs.
The first game for Teburu, which is likely to beat Vampire out, is The Bad Karmas and the Curse of the Zodiac, which is primed on Kickstarter.
Sean Greaney, Brand Manager for World of Darkness, didn’t mention “roleplaying game” either, but nor was “board game” said either.
We are very excited to be partnering with Xplored: their innovative platform of narrative adventure storytelling fits the World of Darkness perfectly. We know that our World of Darkness community will be thrilled to explore this unique style of story gaming.”
In World of Darkness talk, “storytelling” is often a tabletop RPG experience, but not always.
The official news, which talked only about this first game in the multi-game deal, described Vampire: The Masquerade – Milan Uprising as interactive stories for the World of Darkness. It’s a storytelling system.
