It’s a false alarm for a new Judge Dredd RPG, or even an old one.
EN Publishing has not kept the RPG license for Judge Dredd and the Worlds of 2000 AD.
It’s pretty much your last chance to buy it, or so we thought, and some good ways to do so like this Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD RPG Core Rulebook is still in EN Publishing’s name, the eagle-eyed will have noticed the bundle is in Rebellion Publishing.
That makes sense. It won’t be a surprise Rebellion picks up their own title and runs with it. But Osprey?
Published today by Osprey is Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter Rulebook Only, which is described as “Rulebook only. Requires a copy of Judge Dredd Helter Skelter to play. Okay, Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter is a board game.
Osprey is using DriveThruRPG to give free board game rulebooks away so that you buy the board game. That makes sense.
The same must be true for Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth | Rulebook Only. 16 pages, this time, and free, but which also requires a copy of Judge Dredd the Cursed Earth.
The timing of the Osprey push and the EN World retirement is probably a coincidence. The fact that there is a Judge Dredd RPG extension called Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth is also a coincidence; after all, it’s a likely name for a supplement.
There is also the Cursed Earth bundle from Rebellion on DriveThru, which contains The Cursed Earth supplement from EN Publishing.
Who would be confused?
If Rebellion picks up Judge Dredd as an RPG, they’ll have an impressive but busy legacy of content to navigate.
