The Dawn of the Witch will air in Japan in April.
The anime is based on the light novel series of the same name and is set in the same fantasy world as Kobashiri’s Grimoire of Zero. Yumiri Hanamori returns to play the witch Zero, too.
The anime is a spin-off and an “inspired-by” since the light novels are still going, and they, in turn, are inspired by others.
The story is set 500 years after the war between the church and the witches. There are still embers and tensions in the world we last saw in Grimoire of Zero.
This anime follows a magical student called Cervil who struggles at the College of Magic in the Kingdom of Wenias. Somehow, this young man has lost his memories from before his time at the magic school and is sent for special training.
Cervil’s special classes, as arranged by the headmaster, are in the southern part of the continent, and in that part of the world, the levels of persecution and fear of witches are still high.
