Tomorrow the longlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction is announced. The timing, of course, means it comes out on International Women’s Day, March 8th.
On the 8th, we’ll be left with only 16 candidates for the prize. Jola Ayeye told the competition;
The Women’s Prize longlist is always a sight for book lovers’ sore eyes! I’m always excited because I know I am in for a beautiful collection of amazingly written stories to keep me company for a few months. Women do amazing work in literature and this is such an amazing way to celebrate all their hard and beautiful work!”
The book-buying website Bookshop.org is marketing the occasion and making it easier to read through those candidates; there will be free shipping on all of them.
The deal runs from the moment of the announcement and the weekend’s end to Sunday the 13th.
Bookshop.org has been active in the UK since 2020 and has signed up 500 independent bookshops. It’s raised more than £2m for its members and works by selling books for them, giving the stores 30% of the cover price, offering you and me a small discount to help secure our cash in the first place.
The site has a stated goal of supporting independent bookstores and literary culture.
