Conflict Games say their focus is on combat RPGs, but this Kickstarter is all about some clever dice. Dice that are functional and which can float with the aid of magnets.
The Florida based company asked for $10,000 to fund, and within days the Kickstarter community had found nearly $40,000 for them. There’s still plenty of time on the clock, and you can check out the details on their pitch page.
Conflict Games suggest that these dice are all about impact. Impress your players, they say. I’m sure they will, but I also think they’ll make a great gift. Just don’t count on the logistics of any Kickstarter project to fit your birthday calendar.
The dice are functional, and they are as balanced as Conflict can make them and are suitable for tabletop RPGs. These won’t be accepted by casinos, etc., so if you know someone who is very fussy about balanced dice, then brace yourself for debate.
Importantly, it’s not just the dice. If you’ve got any other magnetic levitation trinkets at home, you’ll know they’ll need a suitably robust base to push up against the magnetics. These are included in the Kickstarter, and there’s a choice.
IT SPINS FOREVER: As if by magic, each Levitating Die defies gravity and twirls above its base without any noticeable resisting force, allowing the dice to spin in the air for very long periods of time. With no opposing force, outside of the air resistance from fans and AC units, the Levitate Dice seems to spin forever, or at least a few days.
If you miss the early bird deals, then 1 base and a single d20 are the rewards for backers who contribute $99. That tier also includes the power cable, a global adapter and any stretch goals unlocked.
Equally, if you miss the early bird deals, then the complete set of dice and a platform are included as rewards for backers who find $125. There are clearly economies of scale there.
Conflict Games aim to fulfil the delivery within a year and as early as October.
