William Murakami-Brundage and Menagerie Press have Kickstarted the Westlands RPG. As a result, backers could be rewarded with the core rules for just $1.
The RPG uses streamlined mechanics from the popular Sword of Cepheus, using the game’s SRD. You can find out more, or pledge, from the pitch page.
The project is Murakami-Brundage’s 17th Kickstarter, and the project was given a modest $50 target. At the time of writing, there’s more than $550 pledged.
The designer says the open-license 2d6 SRD has been reworked so that sorcery is more dangerous and there’s more content, such as optional rules for simple firearms. There’s also more in the bestiary.
Funding is for writing, editing, layout, and adding content. We’ve set the reward cost at the lowest possible amount. We’re not out to make a profit, we want to share RPGs with the world.
In return for backing, you’ll get the core PDF and an additional short 2D6 system adventure, The Pool Below. You’ll also get two full-color overland map PDFs to spark your imagination.
True enough to the headline offer, backers who support at $1 will be given the Westlands 2D6 core rules in PDF plus two maps and The Pool Below adventure.
There are higher tiers; $3 and $5. Neither level adds any more rewards; they’re just there if you want to be a more generous backer. At the time of writing, over 240 people have pledged and nearly 60 of them at the $5 tier.
Menagerie Press estimates a May delivery for Westlands.
