Martin Lloyd and Amazing Tales are probably best known for child-appropriate tabletop RPGs like Amazing Tales (now available for free in Ukrainian). Dark Nation is different.
A Kickstarter campaign, which has met its funding goal and has over a week to run, is for the Cthulhu Dark-powered contemporary dystopian. There’s no supernatural in Dark Nation. We’re the monsters. You can find out more or join, from the pledge page.
Inspired by grim stories like the Edge of Darkness, Handmaid’s Tale and 1984, Dark Nation begins with the group collaboratively describing the horrible System of government that their characters live in.
Something awful has happened, and despite the cruel government, the PCs feel compelled to investigate.
If the Investigators succeed they will face an awful choice. Do they want to punish the guilty, secure redress for the victims or make a lasting change? They can only choose one. If they fail they will disappear into darkness, consumed by the System.
Cthulhu Dark powered games usually have a supernatural thread driving people to madness, coordinating horrible wrongs and delighting in suffering. It’s the System in Dark Nation.
The rules use a “disillusion die” mechanic, contacts, combat and a fail forward approach.
The pledge tiers could be any more straightforward. If you want to support the project, then offer some money. If you provide at least €10, you’ll get a PDF copy of the game.
The expected delivery on Dark Nation is rapid. Martin estimates it’ll be ready in April 2022.
