In this trailer for the anime Summer Time Rendering, there’s death by drowning, a digital ghost, murder, and even perhaps a serial killer.
Summertime Rendering is being run by Disney+, although, in fairness, the House of Mouse is yet to pinky swear they’ll air it anywhere outside of Japan. It’s due out there now, in April.
The anime is based on the story by Yasuki Tanaka, and that’s available from Amazon as a pre-order. Rated 16 years old and up, distributed by Udon Entertainment, the book is described;
Hearing the news of the passing of his childhood friend Ushio, Shinpei returned to his hometown on the remote island of Hitogashima to attend her funeral. Little does he know that it is the beginning of a summer full of mystery and horror! No one is prepared for the time-twisting adventures ahead that defy life and death!
Udon’s own description is similar;
A tragic incident calls a young man named Shinpei back to his hometown on the remote island of Higotoshima, Japan. But something sinister awaits upon his return, and a chilling sequence of events unfolds that will have dire consequences for Shinpei, for Japan, and for the entire world!
An English version is in development and Udon push the Disney+ deal as a message. Surely that’s a strong hint that the mature-themed content is coming to the streaming platform?
Sometimes, the show is called “Summertime Rendering” and sometimes “Summer Time Rendering”. That shows the flux we’re still in.
