Monte Cook Games will use the Cypher System to bring a horror RPG of the Green, the Dark and the ancient to life.
In the first 48 hours, backers will get a free Barrow & Locke scrip coin with the rewards. There’s a host of goodies associated with the campaign and game, including a free download 30-page Primer.
Old Gods of Appalachia already has become a big campaign for Monte Cook Games in terms of success. The target was set at $50,000, and with nearly four weeks to go, the pledges are approaching $500,000.
It’s a standalone game, so you don’t need core Cypher System rules in your collection. The system builds characters from a concept and then rewards player-driven subplots.
Old Gods of Appalachia is a roleplaying game of the Green, the Dark, and things even more ancient, in which player characters protect what’s important and try to know the unknowable. It is set in the Alternate Appalachia of the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast, a captivating eldritch horror anthology created by Steve Shell and Cam Collins, and the winner of the 2021 Discover Pods Best Overall Podcast and Best Audio Drama or Fiction Podcast awards.
You can support the project with any amount of money, but backers who find $25 or more will get the core Old Gods of Appalachia RPG in PDF.
Backers who find $70 will get the standard print edition and the PDF. Shipping is global but calculated later.
The “standard edition” suggests a non-standard one, and that’s there for $120 and up backers. The Limited Deluxe Edition has vegan leather, foil stamping, debossing, edge gliding and a satin bookmark.
Reward tiers go much higher, with the $190 group including a GM screen, both editions of the RPG, a GM campaign journal and more.
Delver into the Dark, the $265 (about £204) is a headliner and includes a signed copy from the creators Shanna, Cam and Steve, exclusive premium dice, dice trays, Barrow & Locke tin and early access to playtesting.
Monte Cook Games estimate the delivery of the project at about March 2023.
