Some people take their cosplay very seriously, but like all things, some people prefer to have a little more fun, regardless of the quality of the costume. That was certainly the case at the recent WonderCon convention where there were tons of epically impressive cosplays as well as plenty of fun, goofy costumes. Here are a few of our favorites.
Witcher in the Tub
The Witcher stands as one of the most popular games among cosplayers and while a good Yennifer, Ciri, or Geralt cosplay is certainly impressive, the popularity of the franchise means it’s hard for creators to do anything unique when they decide to dress up like a character in the game. That’s why this bathing Witcher cosplay is so charming. You have a Ciri and Yennifer to ensure there are no questions about Geralt’s identity, but you also have a bathing Witcher, which is something that pops up frequently enough in the game.
In fact, you can actually buy a statue of Geralt in the bath complete with a rubber ducky – just like in this cosplay.
Ernie in the Bath
Geralt isn’t the only one who loves rubber duckies. Here’s a fun take on the world’s most famous ducky-lover. If you love the idea of this comfortable Ernie costume, you can get your hands on the bathtub here.
Princess Deadpool with Unicorn
The great thing about Deadpool cosplayers at conventions is that they’re almost always up to something utterly ridiculous and this little princess Deadpool with his lovely inflatable unicorn was certainly no exception. Can we just make him a Disney princess already?
If you just can’t get enough of this adorable princess look (whether or not you wish to combine it with a Deadpool costume), then grab your own here.
Tiny Batman
I don’t think it’s possible to imagine this teeny tiny Batman insisting “I am the night” in a little squeaky voice without smirking. Really, this might just be my favorite Batman cosplay from the entire convention -and there were a ton of them.
Tiny Predator
There’s typically nothing funny about a well-done predator cosplay, but when the person wearing the cosplay is a young child carrying around a bloody disembodied skull with the spine still attached, that makes the entire thing hilarious.
Aquaman’s Backpack
A store-bought spandex Aquaman cosplay normally wouldn’t be all that notable, but when it’s paired with the world’s biggest JanSport backpack, that adds a delightfully unexpected level of hilarity -especially if you try to imagine what is he carrying in there. A dolphin? A barracuda? Who knows!
On a fun side note, this is the Tiny Predator’s father.
Master Chef
With a character named Master Chief, it was only a matter of time until someone decided to do a mash up Master Chef cosplay. But while it would be easy enough to simply combine his helmet with a basic chef’s jacket and hat, this cosplay is so much more impressive with the accessories, particularly the funny, but entirely unrelated Pickle Rick.
Fetish Knight
There are plenty of LARPers at most cons and many of them use the convention as a way to meet like-minded nerds for hookups. But I’ve never seen anyone quite so direct about their medieval intentions as this fellow.
Activist Ivy
Yes, many vegetarians claim that meat is murder, but what about those poor innocent plants? Poison Ivy is perhaps their greatest advocate, and she’s here to take anyone to task who dares to eat her precious greenery.
Pac-Man Game
Here’s a cosplay that’s as original as it is charismatic. While there are plenty of Pac-Man costumes out there, and even some depicting the classic arcade cabinets, this charming Pac-Man-Man seems to depict the actual game play in the most fashion-forward way possible.
Jedi Santa
Have you ever wondered if there was a Santa Claus traveling a galaxy far, far away on Christmas Eve night a long time ago? Well, let Jedi Santa (cosplayed by Mark W. Gray) settle the question once and for all.
If you want your own Santa Saber, be sure to head over to Mark’s Etsy page to get your own.
Krampus
Sure, it might not be anywhere near Christmas, but aside from the Jedi Santa, I still spotted not just one, but two Krampus cosplays at the convention. This one in particular was delightfully chilling since it has a caged child on Krampus’ back. Keep in mind that WonderCon is one of the most kid-filled cons around because it is right across the street from Disneyland and you can see why it’s particularly funny for the monster who punishes naughty kids at Christmas to make an appearance.
Hilariously, I saw multiple kids who were super excited to see Krampus and even wait in line to take pictures with him, I guess they relish their place on the naughty list.
Encanto Crew
It should hardly be surprising that there were easily dozens of Encanto cosplays, considering the movie’s wild popularity recently. But that doesn’t make this group any less funny with their bucket-wearing Bruno. At least Felix came equipped with an umbrella to deal with Pepa’s emotions.
Mei Mei’s Cardboard Red Panda
While there were tons of Encanto cosplays at the convention, I was a bit surprised to see how few Turning Red cosplays there were, given the success of this recent Disney release. That being said, it was adorable to see a cosplay of the cheesy cardboard red panda costume Mei Mei wears at her temple before she actually becomes a red panda herself -and this cosplayer nailed it perfectly!
Alligator Loki
Everyone loves alligator Loki, but because it is such a difficult costume to put together, you never see cosplays of him no matter how many Lokis you might spot at the convention (just look at the Boba Fett Loki in the background of the dance party above). Fortunately, this cosplayer was here to right this wrong.
The WonderCon Dance Party
Admittedly, there are more than one cosplayers in this great dance party, and, in fact, this is actually a yearly WonderCon tradition. That being said, it is great to see Star Lord at the front, leading the hordes of nerdy dancers because it’s a role so perfect for his character. On a side note, if you want to rock out in your own private Star Lord dance party, did you know you can get the exact same headphones he wears in the movie to listen to his Awesome Mix.
