You know what’s coming; May the 4th is #StarWarsDay, and there isn’t a brand in the galaxy with Star Wars merch to sell that won’t remind you.
Unusually, Society6 has a Star Wars Collection. Why unusual? Society6 is normally about indie artists uploading their unique content and the platform turning that into quality prints, fashion and merch that you and I can buy. Their Star Wars offering is official and licensed therefore sitting in the exciting space of commercial but also indie.
It’s Star Wars Day that the collection launches, and the catch is that it’s available only in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The rest of us miss out.
Having said the Star Wars Collection launches on Star Wars Day, there does seem to be this landing page with content live now. Let’s take a very quick sample.
“Born to Yub Nub” by Hillary White Framed Art Print
[Gimme!]
“I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing – Darth Vader” by Tyler Spangler Coffee Mug
“Porg Madness” by Jason Raish Acrylic Tray
“Red Leader Standing By – X-Wing” by Matthew Taylor Wilson Wall Mural
“Look Sir, Droids! – Stormtrooper” by Matthew Taylor Wilson Wood Wall Art
“The Dark & The Light – Darth Vader” by Berlin Michelle Credenza
“R2-D2 Grid” by Happyminders Picnic Blanket
“Rebel Scum” by Jenny Chang-Rodriguez Mini Art Print
Yeah, so there are entire tables in the collection, which is more logistically significant than sending t-shirts across Europe. I suspect it’s the license, not the shipping, that’s restricted this Star Wars Day deal to a galaxy near only some of us.
