There are some impressively artistic dice trays available for geeky tabletop gamers, but Artefact Games, I suggest, have found a new level with Dice Tomes.
Dice Tomes appear to be gorgeous books, but they open up to come become dice trays. A Kickstarter is asking for £11,000 to fund, and character class dice sets in a book box are on offer. You can find out more from the crowdfunding page.
The story is full of images showing dice, coins, and boxes, and it looks great but is not so great for accessibility. That’s not unique to Artefact Games but feels especially prominent here.
There are a few gotchas as well. The London-based company can’t, as you’d expect, ship to Russia, Ukraine or Iraq, etc., but nor can they do South America. If you try and order from Brazil, they’ll refund your money minus any fees.
I’m tempted, safe here in Scotland. I don’t need any dice trays, but these look gorgeous, and I want one. Willpower saving throws will need to be made.
Dice Tomes are built to last. The boxes are constructed from robust 2mm grey board and the longest wall of the box is a sturdy 18mm/ ¾ inch thick, making the boxes exceptionally resistant to crushing.
You can support the project by pledging some cash or sharing on social media. If your cash support reaches £25, you’ll get a dice tome of your choice. That means 1 set of custom dice (10, not 7), a custom coin and one magnetic book/box. Shipping is added later.
There are economies of scale because you can get two for £47 and three for £68.
Artefact estimate that the campaign will ship before the end of the year.
