There’s a lot of maths in the title, but we’re talking about two freebies from Deck & Dice Games.
The two free downloads are to support the successful Kickstarter QuarterShots ™ – Every DM should have a backup plan!, which as a week left to run.
QuarterShots, which I see Deck & Dice have put a trademark symbol beside, is a name likely derived from “one shots”. Those are quick tabletop RPG sessions that are one and one adventures, and they could be an ad hoc night of gaming or an aside in a more extensive campaign. Ergo, QuarterShots are even smaller than a one shot, a mid-session encounter, distraction or plot twist.
5e, of course, is the system that Dungeons & Dragon uses, but QuarterShots isn’t limited to just that. If you’re using Pathfinder, 1e, DCC or OSRIC, or any other system, you can use the approach.
To prove the point and illustrate how the Kickstarter works Marcus Pascall has taken two adventures from Roads & Ruins and Lairs & Labyrinths to give away for free. These are the two books successful crowdfunding has enabled.
Decoy Escort
From Roads & Ruins, there’s Decoy Escort. You’ll see how it quickly gets to the point. It’s smaller than a one shot, after all.
You can get Decoy Escort (PDF link) directly from Dice and Games. Geek Native doesn’t have a local copy; the freebie is there only while Marcus maintains the file, so download it now and archive it safely.
Orchard Ambush
The second free scene is Orchard Ambush (PDF link) with the same caution on hosting.
In this QuarterShot we begin with the crying child, moving swiftly through the fake ambush into the real trap. Clever, huh?
