Tal Woodblaze’s Prin Orwells Guide to the creatures of Madrikhar is a 5e Pay What You Want with a suggested price of $0.
I think it’s worth a few bucks. It’s easily readable, contains stock art and photographs and reaches to 17 pages. I don’t mean to undersell the book with faint praise; the truth is that Woodblaze has already put more effort than some ashcan PDFs that also invite you to pick a price.
However, I don’t think the Creatures of Madrikhar will be winning any ENnies. This is a safe but not remarkable download. That means you can probably drop these creatures into any fantasy 5e you’re running, but I don’t think there’s any creature in here that your players will be talking about over their pizza afterwards.
For me, it’s also my first exposure to Madrikhar, and it’s weird at that, too, because there’s no mention of Madrikhar. That setting is found in other supplements from Tal. This pushes this bestiary even further away from the disappointing ashcans that little the digital RPG retailers. We know that this author is working on the project, but I don’t know who or what Prin Orwell is.
If anything, the creatures here err towards low or dark fantasy. I concede they’re “creatures” and not “monsters”. For example, they include a caterpillar, a fly, a raven, a tick, mice and even a goat.
