Void Gate Games say three things about Hollow and the third is that it’s free. In practice, it’s a Pay What You Want with a suggested price of $0.00. You can tip if you want.
You can bribe the GM too if you want. It might help. What makes a good bribe? Food? Meat? Bloody meat?
Once you’ve taken the plunge into darkness, Void Gate also then say;
Hollow is meant to be a claustrophobic horror TTRPG where betrayal, debauchery, the decline of one’s sanity and cannibalism is highly encouraged. Be sure to discuss the level of comfort with your players on the themes listed above.
The white on black of the three-page download certainly seems bleak, but it is rules and content light. There’s nothing in the game that generates the horror. That’s up to the GM.
You have a savagery skill, senses, mind and luck skills and do become a drooling cannibal at mind zero. You also get wobbly bones at savagery zero, and as a blogger with a bone condition, even I’m not sure how to play wobbly bones as anything other than a comedy.
But, there’s no question that Hollow is worth a few bucks. The system works, it looks good and as a pocket dungeon crawl into darkness, it’s worthy of an adult night in over a few glasses of rum!
Alone but not by yourself. You look around and see nothing, but hear their shuffles against the stony earth, their sniveling whimpers and the hot air of their ragged breathing bring a small glimmer of hope.
Now, all you need to do is get out alive…
