Due to ill health, Paizo’s Jeff Alvarez is stepping down from their role as the President of the Pathfinder and Starfinder publisher.
Jim Butler, who once worked for Wizards of the Coast, will replace him.
In a press release, Alvarez said;
I have had the pleasure of working closely with Jim from his days at TSR through his time working on Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition at Wizards of the Coast, and now working with me at Paizo,” Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens said. Jim is a hardworking visionary whose almost three decades of game experience makes him the perfect person to guide Paizo into its third decade.”
Butler, who steps into the role as Paizo’s staff Union is finding its feet, added;
I’m grateful for the trust that Lisa and the Leadership Team have placed in me to lead Paizo. I look forward to working with my fellow employees to lead the company into the next era of tabletop excellence.”
After TSR (the real one) and Wizards, Jim founded Bastion Press to offer high quality, bold colour, d20 books. The approach contrasted with the pile ’em high/sell ’em cheap some other publishers did at the time.
I once asked Jim if a portal opened in front of him, whether he’d step through. He said;
I wouldn’t step through—I’d dive in! You never know when portals like that will decide to close. :)
