The Backflip!! trailer reveals the band Wacci will perform the theme song “Our Single Step”. It also nearly mesmerises me with the motion.
Yes, it’s anime, but it feels more impactful than a live-action could be. The gymnastics here feel real enough and yet somehow motion magic. The chorography only possible through animation, perhaps?
IMDB reports that the anime is out in Japan and reviewing well; it’s pushed beyond 7/10 already and with hundreds of votes. It’s on Crunchyroll too. However, it’ll get a special screening on the big screen next month.
The synopsis on IMDB says;
The story follows Shoutarou Futaba, a boy who’s fascinated with men’s rhythmic gymnastics and enrolled at the Ao High School to join the school’s team. The story follows a team of unique seniors and Yoshiya Misato, a classmate who’s famous in high school rhythmic gymnastics tournaments, who run together toward one goal.
Backflip!! (Bakuten!!) is based on the manga by Kei Sakuraba, which started and ended last year.
