The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious is an upcoming anime about a charming, practical and mysterious maid who turns up. I’ve seen the alternative title “The Maid I Hired Recently Is Suspicious” too, which is telling.
The hero, the “I”, is an adorable young boy, and the maid is sexy. In other words, The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious is the manga version of Mary Poppins.
The manga is by Wakame Konbu and on sale in the West via Ken Press. You can find it in Amazon but the synopsis is equally mysterious. Unusually, it’s all in the first person and reads;
I hired a maid who has something about her I just can’t put my finger on. Sure, she looks great and is a fabulous cook, but something about her’s not quite right. What have I gotten myself into!?
Wakame is the author behind The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated, which also got an anime, but which I didn’t watch due to time pressure and the ongoing awkwardness of sexualising apparently young girls (the Great Jahy is a demon).
But, Crunchyroll, which sticks to Western standards, aired The Great Jahy and the series has reviewed well, although not in great numbers there, so perhaps I’m being too cautious.
The same creative team are back for The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious, and Saori Hayami (Yor in SPY x FAMILY) will voice Yuuri while Rie Takahashi (Takagi in Teasing Master Takagi-san) performs as Lilith.
We’re due to get The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious in July, but yet to see if any platform picks it up outside Japan, and I suspect they will.
Via Crunchyroll.
