The popular challenger RPG Quest is now free.
It’s the Classic Quest that’s free and that’s noteworthy because the Cosmic Fantasy edition is coming.
First published in 2020, Quest has found a home among streamers, helping expand it to veteran gamers, while its straightforward approach to roleplaying and rules has brought in new players.
The Core Deck is also free, adding special abilities for heroes and the card mechanic to Quest. The cards are used in addition to the RPG’s d20 system, giving each hero access to powers.
Quest uses rules that are relaxed and flexible, allowing you to tell your story without complicated restrictions. There are only a few things you need to learn to get started, and reading the basics takes most people around 20 minutes.
Created is published by a small company called The Adventure Guild, so small that the website has expired. Created by TC Sottek, edited by Chris Plante and illustrated by Grim Wilkins and Marianna Learmonth, the size of the Guild (or vanishing publisher site) hasn’t held the RPG back. Nicely, it’s a company with ethics and comes with social guidelines for players;
- I will be welcoming to everyone at the table, and patient with newcomers
- I will treat everyone with respect, because they deserve it
- I will be mindful of the needs and boundaries of others
The Cosmic Fantasy edition was announced at the start of the year and is due out this year. It’s based on science fantasy, expanding the original game while still being compatible. A Kickstarter is planned.
