Come July 5th in Japan, Tokyo Mew Mew New will be on air. It’s the er, new Tokyo Mew Mew, and that’s the 20th Anniversary of the first appearance of the manga in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi.
Sentai Filmworks has bought the license for an English release, and we’re expecting that to hit HIDIVE. We’ve got this Japanese trailer, which I don’t understand, but I do get that its magical catgirls.
We also have character cards for some of the new cast. I missed the first set, but this is a pretty cool way to introduce new names to a series.
Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia) is Quiche
Daiki Yamashita (Izuku Midoriya in My Hero Academia) is Tart
Yuuchirou Umehara (Goblin Slayer in GOBLIN SLAYER) is Pie
Aina Suzuki (Mari Ohara in Love Live! Sunshine!!) is Miwa Honjo
Iori Saeki (Vanilla in Nekopara) is Moe Yanagida
Akira Ishida (Gaara in Naruto) is Seiji Aizawa
Quiche, Tart and Pie? It’s like they let this always hungry blogger name characters!
The original manga is a big hit and, therefore, easy enough to pick up. You can get the Omnibus on Amazon. Reiko Yoshida’s work is described there as;
UNLEASH THE FULL POWER OF MEW MEW! On her first date with the cutest boy in school, Ichigo is exposed to a mysterious ray that meshes her DNA with that of the endangered Iriomote wildcat. She soon discovers that she has developed superhuman abilities and enhanced agility. Her new powers are put to the test when she leads a team with four other girls, each endowed with special abilities of their own. Together, they must now protect the Earth from an alien menace known as Deep Blue.
Takahiro Natori (Cannon Busters) is the director, with Yumeta Company and Graphinica providing the studios. Yuka Yamada (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) has control of the series scripts.
