Netflix has a trailer for The Sandman out today, and it looks impressive.
Written by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman series was published by DC and might well refresh what some audiences expert from graphic novel to screen franchises and perhaps even recruit a new flavour of fans.
That’s Dr Who’s Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Tom Sturridge as Dream/The Sandman, and we’ll also get the likes of David Thewlis as John Dee, GoT’s Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer and Geek Native favourite Stephen Fry and Gilbert.
There are a few more months to wait with the show slated for August on Netflix. At the helm are Gaiman, Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer.
There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt was initially lined up to direct the show but quit when the screenwriters were changed. According to IMDB, Gordon-Levitt bowed out saying;
