Tim Roberts of Critical Kit is back on Kickstarter to offer a set of hand-finished dice in luxury packaging. The theme? Minor Arcana.
There’s a 7-piece polyhedral collection of clickclacks in the deal, sharp-edge and translucent resin with appropriate symbology. There are also tarot cards, coins and the packaging. You can find out more on the pitch page.
The Somerset-based company are asking for £10,000 to fund the project, but at the time of writing, Critical Kit are nearly there with over 100 backers.
Italian tattoo artist Vincenzo Ingenito has been commissioned for the project.
The Kickstarter walks you through some of the Tarot basics, explaining the meaning of Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands for context. It also puts an appropriate focus on eco-friendly packaging, which includes vegetable-based inks.
Local and sustainable is a focus. Critical Kit say;
Whilst we try to produce as many things as we can local, because of the nature of the dice manufacturing market, we will need to have the dice produced in China. The tarot cards will be manufactured by Ivory Cards in the United Kingdom. The luxury packaging will be manufactured by Pillbox Design, also based in the United Kingdom. The cards are designed by an Italian tattoo artist, Vincenzo Ingenito. If luxury box stretch goals are reached, they will be produced by Laserox in Hungary. Any printing associated with the project will be completed in the UK by local print companies.
A pledge of £32 is enough to secure thanks in the shape of 7 dice, a coin and the posh box.
Step up to £49, and you get the tarot deck of 56 cards as well. Honestly, I’ve seen tarot that cost more than that alone.
Higher tiers offer multiples of the same, although there are separate retailer options for shops that just want lots of the dice.
The estimated shipping date on the project is relatively soon; in November 2022.
