If you’ve backed a gaming Kickstarter, then you may well know Backerkit. The third-party site helps publishers manage who is getting what in the project’s aftermath.
Actually, Backerkit has been offering more than for a while and has been helping publishers push, promote and market their games. In fact, Geek Native’s not always been happy with some of the techniques used and called out the sockpuppet Justin’s Game FAQs.
Now, Backerkit is taking another risk and has gambled some cash on its own alternative to Kickstarter. It’s called Crowdfunding or Crowdfunding by Backerkit and has some publishers lined up already.
Who? Monte Cook Games, Restoration Games, Leder Games, Tuesday Knight Games, Roll & Play Press, 9th Level Games and Exalted Funeral, to name just a few.
Cephalofair, the publisher of Frosthaven, the most successful Kickstarter game of all time is a launch partner too.
There are big promises from a company well placed to deliver them. Backerkit says their philosophy is to do it better every time, as successful creators do.
The site goes fully live, all being well, next year. However, there are projects live now, and you can check them out on the /c part of the Backerkit site. The c section?
One of the top projects currently are Bird Ita Bags & Accessories from Corviforms which has raised over $140,000 from more than 2,000 backers.
Mothership publishers, Tuesday Knight Games, has Werewolf in the Dark slated for a December launch this year. Cephalofair has thousands of people signed up with interest on the Miniatures of Gloomhaven line.
Given Backerkit’s performance marketing heritage, it’s not impossible they’ll launch an affiliate program for the site and make sites like this one happy. That would mean giving bloggers a slice of the commission Backerkit would otherwise take from the project when sites help create buzz and refer backers.
Kickstarter is less likely to be happy, but nor is it likely to try and lock Backerkit out of its ecosystem.
